Sisal rug in mountain rustic home

Tucked away on a steep, wooded hillside is an amazing mountainside home in North Carolina. A heavily forested plot of land did not deter interior designer, Ann Sherrill and her husband to build the home of their dreams with a 90-foot bridge leading to their front door. Ann owns a well-known upscale design shop called Rusticks and was featured in the January-February 2010 issue of Veranda where Merida was given on-page credit. A Madagascar sisal area rug in Tupelo provides depth and coziness to this cavernous living space. The rustic browns and country-chic antiques placed perfect emphasis on our Madagascar sisal rug to stand out and adding subtle texture to the living room.

“I chose Merida’s Madagascar area rug for my home because of the warm, rich look and comfortable feel underfoot.” – Ann Sherrill

Madagascar Tupelo's textural warmth is the perfect accent to this rustic living room.

Merida custom rug boutique ABC Carpet

For interior design enthusiasts visiting or living in New York City, ABC Carpet & Home should be at or near the top of the shopping list. My first visit to the store’s Manhattan location at Broadway and 19th St. was a brief stop when I was in town for the ICFF show a few years ago. Even then I understood why ABC is the largest retailer of rugs and carpets in the world. The fantastic selection of rugs from every corner of the world is impressive enough, but throw in the luxurious showroom with mile-high ceilings and marble columns – not to mention friendly, knowledgeable salespeople – and you’ve really got an amazing experience.

My latest visit to ABC Carpet was last month with Merida’s Vice President of Strategic Accounts, Paul Rizzo. We were there to begin the process of re-designing Merida’s custom area rug boutique at ABC, and it was an exciting meeting. ABC’s Vice President, Larry Chiprut, was thrilled with our new Valente, Mandacaru and Paraiba sisal designs from Brazil, and we decided to use some of the Valente colors as wallcoverings to create a dramatic backdrop for the boutique, similar to the image above.

Merida’s Creative Director, Maegan Fee, has also been exploring some innovative new display units for the boutique that we’re excited to begin working on. Add to that a special area of the boutique to highlight our collection of rugs for the National Geographic Home Collection, and I think we’re going to be creating a lot of excitement in this already thrilling retail space.

Below are some photos I took of our current space at ABC. We can’t wait to reveal the new and improved boutique next month… you may not even recognize it!

Rugs on the beach!

Last Monday, Maegan and I drove down to the South Shore for a photo shoot to showcase our new Thrive collection of wool area rugs, which was designed in collaboration with Artists For Humanity. AFH’s Executive Director, Susan Rodgerson, graciously offered her home for the shoot, which provided a beautiful seaside setting for the day. We were able to photograph two of the three rug designs in Susan’s beautifully curated space, and we even took the rugs out to the beach for a couple of conceptual shots to highlight the natural inspiration behind the designs.

AFH's photography mentor, Haidon, sets up a shot of the Flourish rug in the living room.

Oz the dog found the Micro rug pretty comfy.

Maegan set up the Flourish rug for a shot on the rocky beach.

Later in the day we headed into the city to take some more shots at AFH’s studios. The young designers were thrilled to see the rugs for the first time!

Later this week we are headed to New York to debut the Thrive Collection at the Architectural Digest Home show! Click here to get your FREE tickets for Thursday’s preview day! Just enter the word “EXHIBITOR” in the promotional code box.

Liberty of London Blooms

It’s finally here! Liberty of London launched it’s limited edition collection of blooming florals today at Target. Everything from pretty, flirty spring dresses to bold, graphic beach cruiser bicycles! I had to check it out myself, as I’m always up for a Target trip, especially when it’s to shop the newest designer launches!

As a textile designer, how could you not be inspired by the incredible variety that Liberty prints offer? I’ve been through their beautiful store in London a handful of times and always left feeling invigorated! With the launch of it’s line at Target, it’s incredibly exciting to see how those prints can translate onto almost any object you can think of!

The colors are just perfect for the season, shocking fuchsia and purple coverlets, peacock turquoise throw pillows, lemon and tangerine lamp shades, they all fit into the trends for spring.

.

Check it out for yourself, but be sure to get there soon as the collection was flying off the racks when I arrived! I was lucky enough to find a sweet floral, pleated dress (perfect for summer) that I can’t wait to wear!
