Jacquard Diamond in Union Club guest rooms

Founded during the Civil War, Boston’s Union Club, located in Beacon Hill near the state house,  is a meeting place, social group, and home away from home for members looking to network with other professionals and grow their circle of friends and acquaintances.  The Club is located in a beautiful row house with parlors, dining and meeting rooms and quaint guest lodging. The 11 bedrooms offer members and their guests a comfortable and home-like alternative to hotel rooms for short stays in the Boston area. The Club has undergone substantial renovations and currently, several guest rooms are being redecorated with the help of member John DeBastiani, a Boston and Los Angeles-based interior designer who is a big fan of Merida. See the photos below of one of the first redecorated guest rooms, featuring a Merida Jacquard Diamond rug in Belgian Chocolate.

Al Gore: economic crisis as an opportunity to climate change

Last week swissnex, Consulate of Switzerland in Boston, invited Vice President and Nobel Laureate Al Gore to be the key note speaker in the inauguration of its renovated headquarter. swissnexboston mission is to build bridges in science, education, art and innovation between Switzerland and New England area. It is worth it checking their website out http://www.swissnexboston.org/

It was quite inspiring to see Mr. Gore deliver his energetic and passionate speech about climate change.  The Vice President reminded the audience that not enough has been done to mitigate the human causes for climate change and global warming despite increasing evidence that the situation has been worsening. But, the speech was basically an optimistic one in face of many new recent developments particularly in the political world. Mr. Gore elaborated on how the present economic crisis might be recast as an opportunity to make huge strides in solving the climate crisis. This could be achieved by putting in place the right economic incentives for the development of clean energy and alternative technologies as a way to revitalize the economy. There is still a long way to go to be firmly set in this direction but it is also clear that we got beyond good intentions and are beginning a policy debate that in the end will lead the country to take the important steps in wedding economic recovery and sustainability.

New Product Introductions

I’m very excited to share with you the inspiration and concept boards for our new Trade introductions for Spring ‘09! We’re taking you on a global expedition: from the mountainous, resort areas of Italy to the exotic African landscape of the Serengeti, Merida’s new product introductions are inspired by landscape, the light of the sun and beautiful architecture.

ALHAMBRA

Inspired by the Alhambra in Southern Spain, the new sisal jacquard pattern draws from the intricate tile work, mosaics and pool reflections found at this beautiful palace.

SERENGETI

Inspired by African wildlife and the Sahara, Merida worked closely with our Belgian supplier weaving yarns of shiny linen and sisal together, representing the Sun and Earth.

Serengeti will be available in Gazelle, Impala, Ibis, and Jacana

CORTINA

A world-famous Italian ski resort in the Alps was the inspiration for Cortina. The ribs of snowy groomed trails echo its pattern. Merida developed Cortina’s color palette to create a warm luxurious feel through the thick felted wool and shiny sisal yarns.

Cortina will be available in Powder, Platinum, Mink and 3 additional colors TBA.
