Living with Merida

Last weekend, I visited my parents in Rhode Island and finally got around to photographing the Merida rug that now lives in my old bedroom. My favorite sisal – Luxe Pyrite with Shale pigskin binding – was instrumental in transforming my old tired bedroom into a beautiful sophisticated guest room.

Three pillars of sustainability, part 1

For many people, the word “sustainability” brings to mind things like climate change and environmental conservation. But the environment is just one piece of the puzzle. In a more broad sense, sustainability is a commitment to future generations that they will be able to live in economically prosperous, socially just, and environmentally healthy communities. We realize that our business can impact each of these areas, and we have outlined goals and actions that will help us realize these impacts. In this post, we’ll discuss some of the environmental goals we’ve set for ourselves, and later in the week we’ll address community and social responsibility and the economic partnerships we’ve created.

Environmental Stewardship goals:

  • Reduce our waste production and energy consumption by 20%
  • Fully understand all aspects of our production and delivery process and work to create positive environmental outcomes from these processes
  • Design products to both limit damage to and restore the environment, such as fully biodegradable products, recyclable and up-cyclable products, and products made from post-consumer waste.
